In my last blog post I mentioned this line, a factor every builder needs to respect in order to gain fame and success. I did however not explain what it is or why it is so important, not only to yourself but to the whole community. The Douchebag-Line will decide your fate as a new or comeback builder, it's what makes your existance widespread and makes sure your track will be the one that is chosen to be tested instead of the thousands of other tracks on mx. Certain statistics are available on your account page, the two single statistics we are going to use are the "Awards Recieved" and "Awards Given" numbers. With these we need to use only the simplest of maths to calculate whether or not you are a douchebag: Recieved > Given -> Douchebag Recieved = Given -> Douchebag Recieved < Given -> Not a Douchebag Notice how Equal values place you right on top of the douchebag line, this is simply because you must be trying hard to stay over it in order to benefit yourself which makes you a douchebag! A douchebag in the process of redeeming himself or a newly appointed douchebag not yet realising the troubles that lie ahead? (absolutely not taken from my account... ahem) So why does it matter? Imagine yourself sitting there below the douchebag line: you're a leech, sucking the soul out of the community by taking more than you give back. Much like an oil company stationed in africa. This is how it affects the community. If you try other peoples tracks they will be more likely to try your tracks, thinking something like this: "This person always tries my tracks, I should probably try some of his, would be really selfish of me not to". This is how it affects you as an individual. Beware though, in the second example you might beentering a 2-way douchebag-line relationship. What this means is that both users feel the need to award the other users tracks until they have as many or more given awards to the other user than what the other user has given to ones own tracks. This is destructive behaviour since it could cause friend-awarding and a silent rivalry. Remember that constructive criticism works just as well, friends will appreciate your advice and perhaps spit out a track you really want to award next time. The Douchebag-Line does not apply to the most popular builders; one cant simply ask a person to award loads of tracks just because a few of his own has gotten so popular. The factor is now upweighed by the obviously much appreciated tracks the user has given to the community. // Tuta (first class douchebag/leech)

So this guy is 5 or maybe 6 years old and calls us all douchebags. He probably doesn't even know what a douchebag is... This blog doesn't cary any weight then.

Juju, you just blew this blog post clean out of the water. That's actually quite impressive! Tuta, you might want to add in a safeguard or something to make up for the loopholes. Nobody wants to be accused of being a douchebag when they don't even realize they've crossed 'the line'.

Well this logic is nice but has some flaws imo. Say you want to stop being a douchebag because you have read this blog post and found out that you are clearly under the line. So you will browse MX tracks an start giving some awards (provided you actually awards the tracks you actually like. I feel like this is never said enough. If you give awards to get some attention on your tracks, you automatically are a douchebag, no matter the number of awards received/given). What happens now? The tracks' owners will be receiving awards of course (yours), and this will increase their number of awards received. At one point one of them will have more received awards than given. So, following this logic, you basically turned people into douchebags by avoiding to be one yourself. Brilliant. Also, if there are some people who give more awards than they receive, there will automatically be some people who receive more than they give. Even if they aren't "real" douchebags.

So, I simply haven't FOUND enough good, obscure tracks to give more awards than I've (somehow) received, does that automatically make me a douchebag, or just really freaking picky?

Great topic So tell me ..... how many of those you refer to are actually gunna bother ta read this post After all , there douchebags aren't they ?? Would luv to mention some names but they already know who they are , so don't need help from me Many under-rated maps out there , who only a few bother to take a look at
