Space says: I am a huge fan of TrackMania (otherwise I would not be here) and I kinda like Nadeo (a lot), but even I must admit, that Enai made some valid points, so you are not alone Space. |

Now I think of it, I've been part of about 4 tm betas but I've never released a track during a beta because there will still be changes. So looking at statistics during a beta is not really relevent.
And it's fine to look at the things Nadeo didn't do and could have done but the things they did do is still 100 times more. In the end it's the players who say everything was better in the old days and the grass is greener on the other side that seperate the community. Get flexible. |

Wait, you mean people don't care about an environment they can already play for free since 2007 while Nadeo makes one stupid decision after another and pisses away all cred they built up with TMN/TMNF/TMUF?
- We have a fairly small community, which is problematic for a multiplayer based game! Logical reaction: One large server pool grouped by population and grey out servers for environments people don't own, so people can oversee the whole size of the community. Nadeo reaction: Have wholly separate games because Metro tiles look cool, and on top of that hide the servers with 100 players below your skill level behind the servers with 1 player at your skill level and on top of that let's display only servers in one's own region so it looks like no one is playing. This will be great for word of mouth advertising! - TM Unlimiter is extremely popular within the community! Logical reaction: Add an Advanced Mode to the editor that removes placement limitations. Nadeo reaction: Issue Shootmania patches until the TM Unlimiter developer gives up. - The community seems to like the lack of clutter and restrictions and the high skill cap of stadium! Logical reaction: Maybe we should make a new environment that shares these traits and create the ultimate Trackmania because we are proud of what we do. Nadeo reaction: VALLEEYYYYY, also let's release TMNF again without parity and with lighting issues for €20. - A track editor is no longer as original as it used to be, also other games now have things like track twisting so they are not restricted to a grid layout and games like Skyrim come with the actual development tools. Also, TMNF has been very popular and dragged TMUF in its wake so now there is money! Logical reaction: Let's make a sequel that blows TM1 out of the water and shows the competition how a track editor is done. Nadeo reaction: Nah let's just add bloom fx to TM1 and turn it into a shooter even though we have no clue about competitive shooters and ignore the fact that actual shooter developers have claimed several times in public that map variety is irrelevant because most people stick with the same few maps all day every day. - The community just wants a racing game, but the developers like Live Tiles and believe they can set up their own game manager-platform-launcher-thing. Logical reaction: Make a menu with tiles and put the game on Steam. Nadeo reaction: Create a launcher, share just enough code between titles to ensure players need to download every patch (twice), make a UI full of unlabelled buttons and poorly explained camera options, don't document any of the important mechanics (packs, locators) and don't put it on Steam until the year after. But hey: it's got tiles. Game development is hard. But in this case, it would have taken the same amount of effort or even less to do it properly. I can only conclude that Nadeo are highly skilled programmers with too many ideas and not enough project management or market research. |
