But, but, but? As far as I can understand what "stadium people" want is the exact same game with new blocks and new GFX. They have the new GFX, including the awesome lighting system, a couple of new blocks and yet they whine they can't turn all the new eyecandy off. Further more, why should they now pay for a game they allready had for free for years. WHAT DO THEY WANT THEN? I really don't understand it.
The only guess I can make is they want the "good old days" back. That will just never happen. Not with a perfect new environment and not with the old version of stadium. Those good times is something that was and if they stay in that frame of mind, new good times will never come. |

Well I would have to agree with Enai Siaion's commentary as well as some other comments as well.
Peoples lives change. Since many were playing "stadium" for several years already and have no need atm to change to TM2. Why should they ?? Is TM2S far better than TM1 versions ?? Apparently not when you take some time out to read the MP forums... When playing online you are basically driving converted TM1S tracks and there just the same old tracks that have been around for ages. Seems as though there are not many people interested in building tracks anymore also... Nadeo really need to look into there advertising campaigns to attract a new generation of players if this game is to survive. Just adding some new blocks will please some (I really don't like the new blocks i've seen so far) but this will not increase the games popularity. For example :- I live in the Asia region (of which contains more than half of the entire planets 7 billion + people) and there are only 3300 + players atm for "stadium".. even when its in a free beta.. .. a very very small percentage indeed. I'm sure there are also other regions in the world that could be more exposed to TM through advertising that targets people who have a passion for "driving" games. If Nadeo had been able to develop a whole new and modern F1 'stadium' type racer that was able to "WOW" people from TM1S and/also newcommers with an amazing transformation and far superior driving to the current 'stadium' then success could almost be garranteed.. A "BIG" question for myself is - Will 'Valley' succeed and will peoples expectations be reached ??.. As with 'Canyon' most/many 'stadiummers' will not like 'Valley' but i'm sure that i will .. as a new environment will offer new challenges .. hopefully.. |

blockmixing or track building... bleh! what this says to me is that most of the maps people want to see converted to TM2 for the stadium env are now converted. I'm more worried about the camera transitions honestly... if they can't be fixed, or it is too difficult to do smoothly and have a successful track, people will not even try to build tracks :/

About blockmixing;
Nadeo is allready working on removing useless air-occupation of certain blocks. Hylis also hinted he thinks blockmixing is very cool. But as allready said here, you can't have flashing blocks in a professional game. Neither can you have CP's mixed into a finish block and weird stuff like that. That really will create buggy sittuations. |

I was more interested why tm1 players don't come to tm2. And a missing tm2unlimiter for stadium is the only fair reason I cant think of. But when people say they dont join tm2 because they can't handle the block selection tool in the new editor then they are not being flexible. That's called rusted.
Only experienced builders will look outside the grid and wish for more possibilities and sure I've had those moments too but it would only raise the learning curve for beginners so TM's prefab world is actually a good thing for new players. Simplicity has always been tm's strong point. And I've always pleeded against bells and whistles like custom objects, build-in block mixing and now building in 360º. Less options = more unity = fair chance for all builders. MNR's editor may have more freedom, I don't see it in ESL. And looks shouldn't be a problem either, just look at minecraft. I don't know either why there's a lack of new players. And since nadeo is with ubisoft I expected more advertising but I've hardly seen any. And it's not really a game that people advertise mouth to mouth. It attracts people who are either creative or otherwise think out of the box so tm has never been mainstream I guess. Although indie games have become more popular lately but it doesn't seem to help tm. Maybe the new generation of gamers are either causual ios gamers or brainwashed console players who only play cod which game experience got even better because your dog now has a tattoo in it's ear! Ah well fudge it, if all fails we will still have a small group of hardcore players making tm even cosier. |

TM2 has no new public. Most people playing TM2 are coming from previous versions... And TM is and old game. I think most of us are some kind of old nostalgic TM gamers XD
We are used to see that ugly editor, and that "squared feeling" while editing. But let's asume this was cool when Nadeo did many years ago. It was far better than Stunts! Wait, not better. Just the same with better graphics XD ... but now, this game is not cool. Everyone of all you can say something you would improve or add to this editor, or game. And this is just because Nadeo has been doing exactly the same during years. We, old fans are still playing it... But this game is obsolete. I can't see inovation. I love TM2 but I'm not blind. Every single game in the market looks far better than TM for the new public. This won't be as Nations or United anymore. This is not a "top" game, despite of it has loyal fans. This is not even a new game. This is a remake. I love Canyon. It has something fresh... But this is just another environment. Not a new game. It seems to me there's people around here waiting for something that is not going to happen. There's not lots of people playing this game. And there won't be. And I don't give a s**. I like it. And this community isn't a big community. But I like it too. Of course we can expect another bubble when Valley comes out... But TM2 won't be as big as TM in the old glory days... Maybe is too soon to say it for sure... I know. I'm still saying Mod Nations Racers editor is far better. You can place everything where you want. You can deform the track. You can draw your own lines. No squared feeling at all. Obiously MNR is a diferent game. But it is really fresh! Something like that would be really cool aplied to TM concept of game, wich I think it's still nice. We don't want 4 directions . We want 360º rotation. We don't want that block on the right or on the left. We want it in the middle. XD Or why not a physics editor? Gravity, grip, power... Something like that. We don't want diferent environments, we want to create environments! I cant tell millions of new small things I would improve to give fresh air to TM2 bubbles... Anyways PC gaming is not the same as before... I think most young gamers are in consoles... (Despite of consoles are more similar to PC now). I will try to build a map soon to contribute to create a new bubble... XD |

Space says: THANK YOU But still, not quite what I meant by that. As a third party program, I respect Blockmixing's rightful place in the TM world, but it just can never be part of the official game. There's just no way a game developer would add a feature such as that. Even if it means a better editor that allows for more creativity. I don't know why people can't understand this. It goes against all logic when it comes to fool-proofing a game. And so because of that: My point, though, was really that the editor, as Enai said, has lost its monopolizing superiority, and given the ingenuity behind the first Nadeo games, TM could advance so much farther. (If you read the story behind TM in the first place, it doesn't really support this idea of Nadeo ingenuity however.) A new editor would completely obliterate this BM argument. It's something I've not ever lobbied for, but it makes sense. I'm drifting so far to the other side of the argument now though. It's scaring me. But I've always tried to stay somewhere in the middle, despite having loved Nadeo for ages. |

I still don't see what that have to do with blockmixing. A bad track is bad, no matter if there is BM or not.

TM isn't played only by serious and intelligent people, right? but game reception is made of everyone's opinion.
winter writes ... | 10, Jun, 2013 |
Well, I do believe anyone using "lol" in any sort of serious fashion is a rock as far as intelligence goes.

winter says: I've played tons of lolmaps made with unlimiter, and can certainly say most of them were made by rocks. |

cxom says: Clearly you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. BM doesn't introduce any bugs unless the builder got an IQ of a rock or thereabouts. I've built pro league ESL FS tracks with a shit ton of BM and there have been no bugs. The bugs you do find are in the blocks themselves and not the blockmixes and as such a track wont be more or less buggy if you BM or not. Tl;dr. Bugs are inherent in the engine\blocks, not because of any BM. I don't really consider flickering blocks much of a bug, but those are mostly easily avoided. Edit: Just to clarify. I'm talking about Stadium. I have no clue whatsoever about Canyon. |

This post by Enai, however, I find to be the best written case for that side of this ongoing argument yet. Especially the track editor. I've loved the TM editor for years, but so much more could be done with it now. Stuff Nadeo even publicly said they thought about doing.
Dose placement limitations though. Given the current format of the editor, they should never be removed. Ever. The simple fact of the matter is that no matter how professional a builder, it opens up the game to a whole world of new, unavoidable bugs. This can NOT be allowed in a professional game. That said, a new format for the editor would completely eliminate the problem. All they're (blockmixers/other placement limitations exploiters) trying to do, oftentimes, is be more creative in route creation. DeMeNs says: Seriously. Probably the best example. But it's got MarioKart physics. Imagine TM and its physics with something like that. |
