A track is diffrent from music. | 09 Jun, 2012 |

Thats why we need a rating system. compare it to mtc, you leave points for a track to found the best track and that is great. add something similar and with this you can´t cheat the system
have 3 creteria when rating fun 5 scenery 5 track 5 5 + 5 + 5 / 3 = 5 = rating 5 3 + 4 + 1 / 3 = 2.7 So to make a good track you need all of those if not you can´t be the botw track its impossible and don´t tell me this system meight be confusing becouse if you like a track you can simply add 3 rating to it, not very hard and, and this is similar to leave feedback, and if you play a track for 1 hours ? dont you have time to make a bit offert to award. ? and the user will see that he need to work on scenery becouse his tracks and fun rating has five, but he only got a 5+5+3 / 3 = 4.3 becouse of that. maybe show all 3 rating for a track that no one see except the user. or/and just the overall rating that anyone can see. This is not about to make a working system its about to make a new and fresh working system right ?, if not why this idea of starting from scratch, ? was quite silly, imho. I write this statement becouse of the first time i read in the award forum thread was that we already have something similar in mind, and i tought, wow, this is exciting, and after 30 page of toughts and cool ideas and example, to find a good base, it just stop, why ? and me and others have put alot of time and offert in this thread to come to a solution , it´s just crazy that nothing happends. ? AT ALL why no rating system, was it to much complain in forum. ? so Forzyy droped it or was it to much to coop with/to hard... ? I think its just some very basic coding to make, and implement a working rate system, simple as (1 + 1) rating system and uotm would be very good for this site. imho. "uotm = underrated of the month" "uotw = failed" this was my idea, but it fail when i read Space comment. geek "e/ so it's not underrated of the week anymore^^ maybe underrated of previous week? lol." read more about uotw http://tm.mania-exchange.com/threads/1492/underrated-of-the-week?page=1 read more about the award system If you like to read. ^^ http://tm.mania-exchange.com/s/ft/621 but i think you do if you read all this, and we complain, becouse we care. |

OK. Thanks. | |

Hans Holo says: No. The award system will stay forever. The rating system replaces the award system on SMX (MX for ShootMania). |

@Forzyy: Does this mean the awards for TM will be replaced?
@eyebo: I was using the music analogy to state the opposite opinion to what Spider is suggesting. |

On a side note ...
Code:
5 + 5 + 5 / 3 = 5 = rating 5 This traditional rating system (arithmetic mean) is useless. For example: 5 /5 = 5 (one vote of 5) gives a track an instant rating of 5. You'll see on SMX how a single vote does not produce an instant rating of said vote (see example above). There are algorithms in place that prevent this from happening. Again, you'll receive more information about this when SMX arrives. Example 5 / 5 = 3.98. One vote of 5, divided by the average, produces a rating of 3.98. The numbers (to two decimal places) will get repetitive, however, the exact rating is also provided. The theoretical maximum possible rating is 4.99 (4.99998427150221 exactly). Negative votes or 'low votes' (those lower than 3) impact the rating as well. Thought you might like to know this. |

That makes sense. Thanks

@eyebo: As a musician, I never wanted to take part in band-contests. I think art should not be competitive (at least not in a way described by numbers), so music should not be rated (of course you can). What the outcome of an art-rating is, you can see at the Oscars or Emmys.
If I go further now, I could ask if a track is art; and what is art anyways? Eh, but I think this is really not what is discussed here. |

I don't really understand the music analogy though. I rate my songs in iTunes.

Yeah opinions differ, giving them only in numbers would make it just more confusing and complicated.

But what good would the feedback be if you gave it 4/5/3 and I gave it 1/2/6. It is just confusing.
SPIDER writes ... | 13, Jun, 2012 |
I like the rating system as feedback only
And this is just an idea that would be fun to see in action, maybe it change things or it doesn´t. Rushonal says: Wrong, its not require anything, really, its just some feedback. and if you don´t want to rate the track, you don´t eyebo (777) says: Hans Holo says: you know why ? becouse we want new and better things right ! and help all to get noticed to let everyone be happy. Why do you think we have computers. |

If I download a map, ready to experiece a fullspeedmap, and it turns out to be a LOL-map. Off course I won't like it. BUT if I was looking for LOL, I might love it. I have played LOTS of tracks without scenery that has been exctremely FUN and GOOD, and LOTS of tracks that is poorly made (because the author isn't a "good" enough driver) that has turned out to be extremely FUN. You should try to rate a track based on what the author buildt it for. IF you HATE fullspeedtracks, don't rate them. You'll just confuse those who love fullspeed.
I have made several hundreds of tracks in TMNF and about 30 tracks in Canyon. Almost all of them have a minimum of scenery in them. Scenery is, for me, just something you put in to have something to drive over or around or to make it easier to see a turn on a flat road. Signs is more important than scenery for me. For instance you could make a brilliant track which is smooth and fun, but hard to understand where to drive. For me it doesn't matter how much scenery you use (not all true, because I probably would like it less if the scenery CAUSED the confusion in the track), but if you used signs, I would give it 6, and without signs maybe 4 (or less). I'm a fan of using an award-system like today here on Mx where you also can give the author some feedback as a comment to the award or a comment on the track about what you like or dislike. |

eyebo. an answer just can't get any more better than that one of yours I agree completely
And yeah, I agree with kruemelyeti pretty much too. Also about the rating stuff, if you feel necessary to let the author know about what you think about the different aspects and sections of the track (and you know I want people to speak up anything they feel like saying if it is any kind of critisism towards a track) I think there's already 2 places you can give the author the feedback: 1) The award. I seriously can't understand the "good track " awards in purely genious masterpieces. Or honestly in any kind of tracks. There must've been something you liked about since you gave an award, and therefore you should let the author know what. 2) The comments section. The seriously underrated feature of the site, it was made to be used. The feedback should be given here especially if you didn't award the track. The "rating" stuff could be sent here for example if you have the burn to give such feedback spider |

Tracks are like music.
Rhythm, flow, variations, changes in height (keys/octaves), a unique personality based on the overall composition. |

Bad idea, don't add a rating system. If spider or anyone else wants to award a track with this system, it's just to go ahead and do it. As someone mentioned, it will limit ones view on a track, and may force the author to include stuff in the track he didn't have intention to include, just because it's now "required".
There are many ways to a good track. |
