First some history...
On February 26, 2013, Nadeo released a video showing the new blocks that were coming to Canyon. There were some cryptic images within the video, one of which said "Canard 53259". This was apparantly a reference to an issue of Canard PC magazine, which featured an article about Steam and had the Steam logo on the front. At the end of the video it says "Maybe one of the February 27th announcements is in the video?". See the video:
Indeed, the next day, on February 27th, a trailer appeared that announced Canyon was now available on Steam. Bringing Canyon to Steam was something the community had been asking Nadeo to do for most of 2012. It was believed by many that Steam would be the best way to bring a much larger audience to the game, since Steam was (and is) a major portal for games.
On the same day, February 27, 2013, the Trackmania 2 Stadium Open Beta was announced:
Also on February 27, 2013, the ShootMania Storm Open Beta was made available on Steam:
I remember being very happy that Canyon was also receiving some love with this block update, even though the main focus seemed to be on Stadium and Storm at the time.
I was so happy to get these new blocks in Canyon that I spent some time making a trailer of my own, released just 3 days after the original video showcasing the new blocks. You can see it here:
-----
The main blocks we received with that update to Canyon:
- Water placeable outside of canyons
- Taller terrain based on canyons. And thus the ability to use all the cliffside roads that would normally be placed down in canyons, but instead use them above ground on this taller terrain. You can see some of these blocks at the start of the video.
- Sequoia trees in multiple blocks and variants
- Split roads in tunnels

This track is a remake of the track from that very first video released on February 26, 2013.
I did my best to re-create the route. I've taken a few creative liberties here and there. Some HD variants of scenery may not match perfectly. The sign next to the tunnel entrance is one block lower than in the video, so that you can't see it as much from the other road. And I feel like the first forest section is shorter in my map, though I can't figure out why. It's difficult to estimate the number of blocks placed solely from watching the video. But I did my best.
I also added some additional checkpoint, since the original track was lacking in them.
Added 3 checkpoints, that weren't in the original:
- A RoadMain CP on the high road near the start
- An item CP in the forest
- An item CP at the end of the tunnel
Added custom music from the original video:
- Professor Kliq - Taillights (from TM2 Stadium)
Added signs from the original video:
- Thanks to
theblackpulse (Xel on Discord) for the sign remakes.
I hope you enjoy driving this little piece of Canyon history!

This is actually the 2nd Canyon map from a trailer that I've rebuilt. You can see the other here:
