1.- Technically, yes. It kinda looks like poor form but it's a legitimate thing to do, and you would respawn in the same direction to turn around so it's allowed.

Four questions:
Can I turn around at a checkpoint?
Can checkpoints be crossed while driving backwards?
Can checkpoint objects be tilted and rolled? They do face the same direction when seen from above.

What Arkive says. You can respawn from every other checkpoint block and you should be able to finish if you were to do so.

I'm fairly certain that means that, should you respawn at any CP, you can finish the map. The "unrespawnable by nature" refers to the Stadium ring CPs, which you physically can't respawn at.
